The IOI-SA Course in Ocean Governance is well under way. In the first week of the course, participants were divided into three groups and asked to give their thoughts and a summary of three of International Conventions:
THE CONVENTION ON MIGRATORY SPECIES (CMS)
CONVENTION ON BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY (CBD)
By the third week, participants had been exposed to more of the marine and maritime issues involved in Ocean Governance. They were asked to list three priority issues that had been covered that week and choose one for which they would provide recommendations on how to resolve the issues. Click within the table below to find out more.
Group 1 | Group 2 | Group 3 |
Human and Social Values | Oils Spills | Climate Change |
Pollution | Climate Change | National Policy |
Climate Change | Small-Fisheries | Aquaculture |
Throughout the four-week course, the participants were working on a Regional Policy Exercise. In two groups, the participants were tasked with identifying three or four areas for which would provide detailed recommendations to either the Abidjan or Nairobi Conventions, depending on their group. This was a challenging exercise that required a considerable amount of work and the groups each produced excellent work. To read more about their recommendations, click on the links below.
