Climate Change – It is an immediate threat with foreseen and unforeseeable impacts
Recommendations:
- Prevent – Invest in alternative energy but consider the consequences to the environment associated with alternative energy.
- Adapt – Foreseeable impacts should be considered in Integrated Coastal Zone Management. Consider changes in fish distribution, sea level rise and increased ocean acidity in planning and try reduce other pressures on the ecosystem.
- Remove Carbon Dioxide – Carbon sinks and sequestration should be seen as a last resort because it a) might not work and b) could have other impacts (e.g. “climate change forests” could reduce natural biodiversity and reduce land available for agriculture.)
