2017 Course in Ocean Governance

Applications are now open for the 2017 IOI-SA Course in Ocean Governance. The IOI-SA will be running the annual course in Ocean Governance for Africa in collaboration with the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI), the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), and other partners, from the 4th to the 29th of September 2017. The course will be based in Cape Town (hosted at SANBI, Kirstenbosch).  The deadline for applications is 13 April 2017.ogtp-group-2016

The 4 week course focuses on an array of pressing ocean governance issues. The interdisciplinary approach is designed to include lectures and field trips that demonstrate practical examples of governance tools, mechanisms and engagements with real-world applications in Africa.

The course is designed to contribute to building a sustainable core of experts on ocean governance for the continent and is intended for professionals, managers, educators, researchers and civil society members that have coastal and marine related responsibilities, functions or interests, preferably from or with an interest in countries within the African region.

IOI-SA focuses on Ocean Governance capacity development in Africa through training programmes aimed at harmonising management, policy and development. The IOI-SA produces research, policy and strategy-related outputs to address key challenges of sustainable ocean governance in support of the communities, governments, regions and international organizations concerned with securing a peaceful, prosperous and healthy future for all. The IOI-SA maintains particular focus on rural coastal communities, decision-makers, post­graduate students and schools. It achieves its mission through collaborating and networking with organizations and government agencies in Africa that are active in the sphere of marine and coastal management and sustainable livelihoods.
