Our Partners

The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is our primary institutional partner. Collaboration is based on a memorandum of understanding, and focuses on the role of ocean governance in the context of conservation of marine and coastal biodiversity.

Partners

Over the years, IOI-SA has partnered with a range of organisations on various current and completed
projects that contributed to advancing capacity and knowledge on ocean governance. These include:

– The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation: partner in delivering the online Ocean Academy (current).

– AfriSeas Solutions: partner on short courses in ocean accounting (current).

– IUCN: partner on a project on capacity building for BBNJ implementation in Africa (current).

– WIOMSA, SANBI and the University of Cape Town: short course on co-designing solutions for ocean sustainability (completed).

– Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE): partner in the finalization of management plans for marine protected areas on the West Coast (completed).

– The South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI): partner on various ocean governance related short courses (completed).

– Abidjan Convention: partner on a small-scale funding agreement to strengthen ocean governance in selected Abidjan Convention Parties (completed).

– Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO): partner on Small Scale Fisheries Governance Training Programmes (completed).

– Institute for Security Studies (ISS): partner on delivering a report on Africa’s Blue Economy and Climate Change (completed).
