Development of Management Plans for the Benuela Mud and Cape Canyon Marine Protected Areas

IOI-SA was contracted by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

IOI-SA was contracted by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment to assist the Department with a process of engaging stakeholders and finalising management plans for two marine protected areas (MPAs) off the west coast of South Africa: the Benuela Mud MPA and the Cape Canyon MPA. This process was undertaken in accordance with the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act (57 of 2003, as amended). The project involved workshops and consultations with a wide array of stakeholders to raise awareness of the MPAs,  to discuss and receive feedback on the draft management plans, and to explain the process of finalising the management plans. This project was undertaken in partnership with Eco-Africa.
